This year, while delivering Passover aid to families in Jerusalem, we met Michal*—a young single mother of two. Coming from a complicated family background where she was raised outside her parents’ home, she married and divorced young. And despite the challenges involved in her lifestyle, she does her best to raise her two small children; Alon* who is in 4th grade, and Nimrod* who is in 2nd grade.
Both of her children have been diagnosed with severe ADD, and are integrated into classrooms with the help of a paraprofessional. The children also face emotional and social difficulties related to their background.
Michal works full-time as a secretary in a real estate appraisal office and is putting forth many efforts to reach financial independence. Still, she struggles. Her many debts make putting food on the table for herself and her children anything but easy.
To make matters worse, health complications have also hindered her ability to function both as a professional, and as a mother. Her missed workdays cause her an enormous amount of stress because of the tenuous situation she is in.
