Peace and Thanksgiving Offerings
A thanksgiving offering is a sacrifice offered in the temple. It is meant as personal thanks to God for the salvation He has provided.
This is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings which he shall offer to the Lord: 12 If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer, with the sacrifice of thanksgiving, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, unleavened wafers anointed with oil, or cakes of blended flour mixed with oil. — Leviticus 7:11-12
In the Bible, there are many references to the worship of thanks on an altar. Thanks to God also appears in other ways: Moses and the children of Israel thank God after the exodus from Egypt in song, Hannah thanks God for the birth of Samuel in prayer, and Jonah offers a sacrifice with a voice of thanksgiving.
By offering a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God, we express our relationship with the Lord. And in exchange, He rewards us with salvation and redemption.
Overcoming Hunger
When the first settlers arrived from England by ship to America, they suffered from diseases, hunger, and poor living conditions. The Native Americans taught the settlers how to raise poultry, graze sheep and cattle and how to grow crops. In the years that followed, the settlers were blessed with food, overcoming famine and sickness. And so they celebrated by giving thanks to the Lord.
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. — Hebrews 13:15
We Give Thanks to Our Partners
We praise God for the gifts He has laid upon us. Amongst those gifts are you, the generous members of our community. When we enter our center at the Millennium building, we remember you. We give thanks for you when we worship, when we distribute to the needy, and when we host brave survivors and victims of terror. Whether you are from the U.S. or not, we give thanks to the Lord for your partnership and your prayers.
