Dear Friends,
During the Feast of Shavu’ot, we customarily read the story of Ruth. This is an important story. This book of the Bible not only talks about faithfulness to one another in times of hardship but also the faithfulness of God in all situations.
In the story, Naomi and Elimelech leave their homeland due to famine. Elimelech dies shortly after they arrive in Moab, and Naomi is left with her two sons in the land of the Moab. Though the sons marry two beautiful women, the men die and Naomi is alone with her daughters-in-law in a land that is foreign to her. She urges them to go back to their families and remarry, but one of them, Ruth, refuses. Out of love for her mother-in-law, she follows Naomi to Bethlehem to live with the people of Israel.
Though Ruth does not know Naomi’s people, she stays true to her covenant with God and her late husband and stays with her mother-in-law. During a time of uncertainty and fear, Ruth remains steadfast in her faith and her love for her family and does something that likely scared her. This story is often potent for those who become Jewish by choice, not by birth.
It is no secret that it takes a village to make VFI’s work possible. Our extensive areas of service, donations, and events would not be possible without our faithful partners, volunteers, and friends. Just as Ruth walked with Naomi, we often walk by faith when others need help, knowing only that we must serve them and help however we can. It is not our place to understand the situation fully nor feel comfortable, it is our job to carry out the word of God however we can, even when the process feels foreign or intimidating. This would not be a possibility if we did not have loyal supporters.
We rely on the relationships that we have with our partners. Though we don’t always know what will come next, we trust that our partners will be there to help us. With your steady support, we can tackle new projects, while our faith in Yeshua and our vision to help others propels us to keep working. We need these relationships to create reliable, ongoing services for those who need them most.
